Writing Workshops for ESL Teachers
CMT offers a unique opportunity to teachers for whom English is a second language (ESL) to upgrade their written and spoken English. Using a Writers’ Workshop Approach, teachers will be able to work in a community of writers as they develop their own personal narratives or expository writing based on subjects about which they are knowledgeable.
Participants will be guided through all the steps of the writing process as follows:
- Topic selection
- Brain storming to elicit information
- Organization of ideas using graphic organizers
- Draft writing
- Writers’ conferences for feedback
- Revision strategies that include all aspects of proficient writing
- Proofreading strategies
- Ways to publish a classroom book
Learning outcomes for participating teachers will include increased knowledge and awareness of the writing process and the acquisition of strong English Language skills. Teachers will be able to apply their learning to their classroom instruction so that their students can benefit from a rich language-learning environment. Teachers’ published books will serve as models for their students book writing activities.
